2026 Nominations

Join the Journey: Shape the Future of Science Writing in Canada

The Science Writers and Communicators of Canada (SWCC) is seeking nominations for our Board of Directors for the 2026 - 2028 term. This is a unique opportunity for you to help shape the future of science communication, writing and journalism in our country and to enhance your personal and professional growth. You can make a real difference!

Being a part of our board means you'll have a direct hand in crafting initiatives and influencing decisions that can inspire the public's understanding and appreciation of science. This isn't just about giving back, though; you'll also be nurturing your own growth, expanding your network, honing your leadership skills, and gaining valuable experience in nonprofit governance.

The nomination period is open from 1 June - 18 Aug

There are two vacancies to fill for the upcoming year:
Digital Media Chair and a Director at Large

If you're ready to embark on this exciting journey, here are the steps to apply:

  • Complete the Nomination Form: Fill out the nomination form and secure signatures from two other members who support your candidacy.
  • Personal Statement and Photo: Write a brief personal statement about your interest in joining the board and include a photograph of yourself.
  • Expectations of Board Members Agreement: Read and agree to our Expectations of Board Members document, as this outlines what you can expect from us and what we'll expect from you.
  • Submit Your Nomination: Once you've compiled everything, email the package to our nominating committee care of office@sciencewriters.ca. Please ensure we receive your nomination by 18 August, 2026.
  • Become an SWCC Member: The directors, at the time of their nomination at the Annual General Meeting, shall be members in good standing.

We are looking for individuals ready to bring their passion, innovative thinking, and leadership to the SWCC. We hope you'll consider stepping forward to help shape the future of science communication in Canada.

Together, we can make a difference!
