1972 JOURNALISM AWARD ($1000 Prize)
Presented on February 24, 1973 at the Ontario Science Centre, in Toronto, ON

The Ortho Medical Writing Award for Print Coverage of Medicine: Joan Hollobon, The Globe and Mail.


1973 JOURNALISM AWARDS ($1000 Prizes)
Announced January 25, 1974, and presented by Minister of State for Science and Technology Mme. Jeanne Sauvé* at Varennes, QC

The Bell-Northern Research Award for Excellence in Science Broadcasting: Hobel-Leiterman Productions, creators of "Here Come the Seventies", and "Target: The Impossible". Douglas Leiterman, Toronto, accepting.

The Ortho Medical Writing Award for Print Coverage of Medicine: Marilyn Dunlop, The Toronto Star, for her series on a Toronto surgical team visiting Yugoslavia.

* Mme. Sauvé announced the creation of the Ministry of State for Science and Technology (MOSST) Award for Science Reporting in Print.


1974 JOURNALISM AWARDS ($1000 Prizes)
Announced February 24, 1975, in Toronto, ON

The Bell-Northern Research Award for Excellence in Science Broadcasting: Nancy Archibald, producer, "The First Inch", CBC Nature of Things.

The Ortho Medical Writing Award for Print Coverage of Medicine: Heather Carswell, of The Medical Post, for two stories on Chinese replantation of body parts and The changing social and health scene in the Northwest Territories.

Ministry of State for Science and Technology (MOSST) Award for Science Reporting in Print: Joint Award to: Lydia Dotto, The Globe and Mail, for a series on how to make an atom bomb, and Thomas Pawlick, The Montreal Gazette, for a series on medical ethics.


1975 JOURNALISM AWARDS ($1000 Prizes)
Presented March 11, 1976, at the Holiday Inn, Hamilton, ON

The Bell-Northern Research Award for Excellence in Science Broadcasting: Joint award to: CBC Television-The Nature of Things, for a film on aquatic life, and a program in the CBC Radio-Quirks and Quarks.

The Ortho Medical Writing Award for Print Coverage of Medicine: Betty Lou Lee, of The Hamilton Spectator, for her story on diabetes and the artificial pancreas.

Ministry of State for Science and Technology Award (MOSST) for Science Reporting in Print: Louis Brunel, Québec Science, for his article on satellites as a way of future communication.


1976 JOURNALISM AWARDS ($1000 Prizes)
Presented March 24, 1977, Ottawa, ON

The Bell-Northern Research Award for Excellence in Science Broadcasting: Ontario Educational Communication Authority, for the film, "The Irreversible World", depicting the basic laws of physical change, and first broadcast on TVOntario-Dimensions in Science.

The Ortho Medical Writing Award for Print Coverage of Medicine: Zoe Bieler, of The Montreal Star, for her series on genetics.

Hon Mentions: Gilles Provost, of Le Devoir, for "La meillure façon de tuer un homme', in Québec Science, and Derek Cassels, for "Doctors (and butchers) may face high risk of killer slow virus", in The Medical Post.

Ministry of State for Science and Technology Award (MOSST) for Science Reporting in Print: Gilles Provost, of Le Devoir, for his series of articles on genetics.

Hon Mention: Neil Morris, of The London Free Press, for a series on genetics.

The Ortho Medical Writing Award for Print Coverage of Medicine: Joint award to: Tim Padmore, of The Vancouver Sun, for his three-part feature on pain (Jan 31, 1977); and Pierre Sormany for his long feature on cancer in Québec Science.
